Day Two: New Delhi, Old Delhi
All I can say is, wow. Spent the day exploring the old section of Delhi, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, and it was total sensory overload. The throngs, the scents, the complete tangle of pedestrians and vehicles -- there was nothing familiar about it and even as life-long New Yorkers and seasoned travelers, it was a challenge to drink it all in. In fact, we felt positively drunk by the end of the day (not to mention pretty damned tired!). Food has been great, especially for two of us who are newly minted vegetarians. Accommodations, on the other hand, have been a little exasperating. The hotel keeps screwing up and we arrived home totally bushed at 6:30 p.m. to find both of our rooms completely emptied of our belongings! It’s a very long story and I’m sure we’ll laugh about it later. But suffice it to say that the words I chose would not be allowed in a PG movie. I’ll pray for forgiveness tomorrow at the Taj Mahal.
Below is a new slideshow that doesn’t begin to give you the feel for what we experienced today, but hope you’ll feel you’ve made a little trip to a far-away place, nonetheless.
